Anyone that lives, works, or owns property within our boundaries is a member. Since there is a mixture of residents and businesses in our neighborhood, we enjoy a friendly cooperation that benefits both.Every year we have a neighborhood cleanup which has residents and business owners working together to make our neighborhood more attractive. 

This neighborhood has some historical buildings, although some of them are no longer still standing-like the McKnight Mansion, also known as Willowdale, which was at 206 S. Hydraulic, where there is now a strip mall.  This picture is from 1927, it was torn down in 1969. The Alaskan Ice Palace was also located on S. Hydraulic where the Bradford Glen Apartments are now. It started out as an ice skating rink which later became a roller rink until it was torn down in the 1960’s.  Here is a picture of the Mentholatum Building from 1928, you can see the overhead electric streetcar lines. It was built in 1909. For more than thirty years now it has been known as the Spice Merchant.

The Hyde Neighborhood Association has quarterly meetings at the Spice Merchant 1300 E. Douglas on the balcony.
